Love On Lock-down

So I think we can safely say that 2020 has been a wild year and to some a complete write off but not for some Irish couples who defied all odds and tied the knot. A total of 82 marriages have been recorded here in Ireland since the Corona virus turned what we know as normal up on its head. That’s just 82 couples in the space of about 3 months, compared to the same period of last year, where a whopping near 4,000 couples celebrated their wedding day. 

The 82 weddings were not your typical wedding celebration, the couples had to adhere to strict restrictions. One such restriction was no more than 10 people in the church to witness the marriage. This was not the ideal scenario for the people getting married but they had their heart set on getting wed on that particular date and no virus was going to stop them.

Although the couples were sad that the whole family couldn’t witness the big day, they understood it was necessary at this crazy time. Some couples opted to use a webcam so more family members could see them tie the knot, I think this was a great idea and something that might become the norm moving forward. 

The weddings adhered to the same guidelines that were at the time no more than 10 people in attendance. At present day this limit has been lifted and you can now have up to 25 in attendance. 

So many weddings have been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic here in Ireland. There are so many brides and grooms that have had their plans dashed but I can see this will not deter them from having the wedding of their dreams. Once further restrictions begin to lift we will see life go back to a little normal and the couples will get the wedding they so truly deserve.
