10 Wedding Day Traditions

We all look forward to our wedding day, we dream of that special day, the dress the man and every little detail in between!
Once we find that special someone and he finally pops the question we are burning to hear!

The excitement of your wedding day can have you trawling through the internet for ideas, looking for tips on what to do and what not to do but did you know there are some crazy traditions that surround the wonderful world that is a magical wedding!
We have listed the most crazy ones that are actually done the world over!
Our Top 10 Wedding Day Traditions
1. Brides in Greece have been known to put a cube of sugar in their glove on the day of their wedding, the greek people believe that this sugar cube will sweeten the union between the married couple.
2. Rain on your wedding day is considered good luck in Hindu culture, I don’t know about you but I would cry if I seen rain on the day of my wedding!
3. We all know the tradition of carry the bride over the threshold, but did you know the real reason people started this tradition? It was believed that this brave act by the man would help protect her against evil spirits!
4. In Egypt the women pinch the bride for good luck! Not to me love!
5. We have seen rice thrown at the happy couple, but did you know that Chez brides have peas thrown at them…. Weird!
6. In Finland, brides traditionally went door to door collecting gifts in a pillowcase and was always accompanied by an older married man who represented a long marriage. I could definitely go around collecting presents but leave the old man at home, thank you
7. We all love a long veil with some sparkle, but did you know it originated from Greece. Brides would wear a veil to protect them from evil spirits. In this day and age we just delete our Facebook page.
8. In Denmark brides and grooms traditionally cross dressed to confuse evil spirits. I can’t say I would try this.
9. In Egypt, the bride’s family will cook for the married couple for one week after the wedding. The idea is the couple can relax and take it easy. This is a tradition I could incorporate into my life.
10. The tradition of the wedding cake comes from ancient Rome where guests would break a loaf of bread over the bride’s head for fertility’s sake. Not after I had my hair done pal!
So that’s some of the weird and wonderful wedding day traditions that are performed around the world. I don’t think many of them will pick back up and I’m happy with that.
