Top 5 of the Biggest Mistakes Couples Make When Planning Their Wedding Day

In these crazy times, we are currently allowed to have up to 100 people who can attend a wedding. Weddings were nearly non-existent during covid and many brides and grooms had to postpone their big day to late 2021 and 2022. With this, we will see a surge in weddings and wedding planning going through the roof.

Wedding planning can be a stressful time for any bride and groom and it’s so easy to make a mistake when planning your big day. Weddings are expensive, there is no hiding that fact, and you can easily waste your hard-earned money on the wrong things and be out of pocket. So before you spend your wonga on something for your big day, think of the below as a guide for your wedding planning and what not to do.

We have compiled the top 5 mistakes that couples tend to make before they take the plunge down the aisle, so listen up brides to be.

Planning Their Wedding Day
  1. Not hiring a videographer, I am guilty of this and it’s the only big regret I have about my special day. Money was tight and it was an expense I knew we could live without, but thinking back now I would love to have the memories captured on tape to look back at now and to show my kids in years to come. It could be a good idea for a wedding gift from family members, rather than money they can help with the cost to cover a videographer.
  2. Doing your make-up. I for one would never even contemplate this one. This is one of the most magical days of your life and all eyes will be on you so I want to look my best, plus I’m rubbish at applying makeup. This is a day that you will be looked at more times than you can even imagine. You should spend that little bit of time and research some good makeup artists in your area. Reviews and past customer testimonials are the best way to get an idea of how good they are, lots of makeup artists also offer a trial make-up prior so you can rest assured that you will be happy with your makeup on the big day.
  3. Speeches go on far too long – I don’t like it when the speeches go on a long time. I think it can sap the mood out of any wedding if they go on and on, especially if dinner is after the speeches. People are getting hungry and getting hangry too so it’s best to try and keep the speeches short or have the meal before the speeches. I was at a wedding one time and the bride and groom decided to have the speeches in between courses which I felt was a great idea and broke up the time we waited for courses.
  4. Cheap wine at dinner – I know you’re on a budget but there are some things you should try and not skimp on and wine is one of them. Try to put one or two euros more on your wine selection and this can help you from making this mistake. This goes for the wedding meal also, going cheap on your wedding menu is a big mistake that many couples make time and time again. Go and have a tester meal in your venue of choice. I for one remember if I had a bad meal at a wedding as the meal is something I look forward to. You get what you pay for at the end of the day.
  5. Borrowing money is another pitfall that you do not want to fall into. No one wants to start their new life in debt, life should be all dreamy at this stage and not all bills post-wedding bells. We know that marriage can have its ups and downs so adding debt to it would help at all. Save and save and then have the wedding of your dreams that you can truly afford.
